Museum lecture and Elvis also on weekend agenda

By Charlene Dean

The next lecture in the Pahrump Valley Museum’s Lecture Series will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow and feature local businessman Jack Sanders as the guest speaker.
Sanders, owner of Sanders Family Winery on Kellogg Road, has lived here for 27 years and will talk about the history of wine making in the valley.
Although Sanders opened the Pahrump Valley Winery on Winery Road in 1999, he was not the first grape grower or wine maker here.
The museum is located at 401 E. Basin Ave. Call 751-1970 for additional information.
If mom is an Elvis fan, Sunday will be the perfect opportunity to treat her to the Mother’s Day Elvis tribute show, featuring Travis Allen, at the Maverick Saloon and Dance Hall, 340 E. Mesquite Ave.
Allen holds the distinction of being the 2011 No. 1 Elvis tribute artist in Las Vegas and his talent is recognized by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
The gigmaster.com website states, “Amazingly Travis is 6’1” 170 lbs., the same height and weight as Elvis was in 1956,1968 and 1973 a remarkable resemblance, it’s uncanny (real blue eyes) amazing voice to Elvis Presley.”
In addition, Allen is a musician in his own right and plays guitar, keyboard and drums, and composes his own music.
Tickets are $15 and the show will be from 6 to 9 p.m., May 13. Call 751-9988 for tickets and additional information.
