Burton crowned Ms. Senior Nye County for 2016

The Ms. Senior Nye County Pageant has a brand new queen.

Carol Burton was crowned before a large crowd inside the Pahrump Nugget Events Center on Saturday.

Burton was one of five contestants vying for the crown, as they competed through individual interviews, talent performances, evening gowns and philosophy of life.

Assistant Pageant Coordinator Stormi Caprice said judges thought Burton’s talent performance stood above the rest of the field.

“She danced to the tune, ‘I’m Happy When I’m Dancing’ and the judges thought her talent performance was wonderful and they gave her the talent prize,” she said. “All of the contestants were very talented in their own way. As far as Carol is concerned, we felt the judges could not have made a wrong choice.”

Burton is the resident cosmetologist at Inspirations Senior Living.

“I have the privilege of making others feel beautiful on the outside, which makes them feel beautiful on the inside,” Burton’s bio stated. “When our residents enter the salon, they know they are important, loved, pampered and beautiful. I am honored that our residents have a place to come, enjoy music, share their life experiences and feel wanted and loved.”

Caprice noted that she and the queen’s court are now prepping Burton for the state pageant later this summer.

The last Ms. Senior Nye County Pageant winner to earn the state title was Rev. Carole Fucillo back in 2011.

“We are also getting ready to send Carol to the Nevada State Pageant in Las Vegas this August,” she said. “We all know she will represent us well.”

Additionally, Caprice said last Saturday’s attendance exceeded her expectations.

“We started out with seating for 150 and we ended up having to bring in extra seats,” she said. “We are very happy that we were able to fill the room, because a portion of the ticket revenues are going to benefit Pahrump’s No To Abuse.”

Burton succeeds Ms. Senior Nye County 2015 winner Virginia Kelly-Vignato.

“Winning Ms. Senior Nye County has been a dream come true for me,” she said. “But now it’s time to pass my crown to a new queen, making her dreams come true too.”

Burton’s Queen’s Court includes first runner-up Marcia Walling and second runner-up Megan Milam, while contestant Dot Ahrens won Ms. Congeniality.

Lovely and talented contestant Joan West rounded out the field of five.

The 2016 Ms. Senior Nye County Pageant was produced and directed by Janet “Scotty” Winegar.
