Church hosting ‘The Night Before Christmas’ play this Saturday

Members of an area church are inviting the community to a Christmas-themed event on Saturday.

One Destination Missionary Church will present “The Night Before Christmas” inside the gymnasium of J.G. Johnson Elementary School beginning at 2 p.m.

The school is located at 900 Jackrabbit St.

Church member Redell Samuels said the event is free to the public.

“We decided to come up with a program for everybody who is excited about Christmas,” she said. “We just want to share the true meaning of Christmas. Anybody and everybody is welcome to come join us and enjoy some food, caroling, and gifts.”

Additionally, attendees can take part in a silent auction where dozens of items are up for grabs, according to Redell.

“We have a little bit of everything,” she said. “We have approximately 50 items from crystal to pictures and all kinds of other items. Most of the items were donated and they make great Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers.”

As One Destination Missionary Church was formed in January, Samuels said the congregation also want to introduce themselves and the church to the community.

Church services are each Sunday in J.G. Johnson’s gymnasium. The group also plans to perform a Christmas-themed skit during the event.

“It will be to explain and show to our visitors what the real meeting of Christmas is,” she said. “It’s not about getting and giving presents, it’s all about Jesus. We just want to carry the message that people can still have fun at Christmas but they should not forget the reason for Christmas”
