Museum lecture features Tim Hafen
The Pahrump Valley Museum and Historical Society is proud to announce that our next lecture for 2014 is scheduled for Saturday, April 12 with M. Kent “Tim” Hafen who will be speaking on the history of Pahrump Valley and how some of the streets were named.
Hafen moved to the Pahrump Valley in 1951 at the age of 19, from Mesquite to setup farmland as his father had successfully done in Mesquite.
Hafen’s first purchase was 840 acres from Elmer Bowman and Tim planted 40 acres of alfalfa the first year and the next year he planted 100 acres of cotton and more alfalfa.
In 1963, Hafen added the 650 acres from the Frehner Ranch to his holdings with cotton being the most important crop grown on the Hafen Ranches at that time.
Hafen later became involved in real estate development and currently owns Hafen &Hafen Realty, LLC.
He also is a general contractor and the president of Pahrump Utility Company, Inc., a utility business serving water and sewer to residential developments in southern Pahrump and he is the developer of Artesia and Cottonwoods at Hafen Ranch, residential subdivisions and commercial properties. Hafen became an outstanding community leader.
His leadership qualities led to politics, and he served in Nevada’s General Assembly for four terms. He also was Board Chairman of Valley Electric Association, board chairman of the Nevada Farm Bureau Federation as well as numerous other state and county boards and commissions.
He has been presented the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award by the College of Agriculture and named Distinguished Nevadan by the Board of Regents of the University and Community College Systems of Nevada.
The lecture will be held at the Pahrump Valley Museum and Historical Society at 1 p.m. and admission is free.
