The annual celebration for cancer survivors, those battling the disease and their caretakers, and those who have lost someone to cancer will have the opportunity to gather for Relay for Life this weekend at Petrack Park.

The survivor dinner will be at 4:30 p.m. today in the Bob Ruud Community Center and is free for cancer survivors. The dinner is being donated by the Elks Lodge.

Opening ceremonies for the cancer walk will begin at 6 p.m., Friday, May 16, with the announcement of the King and Queen of Relay.

The first lap around the track is for survivors and the luminaria ceremony will begin at 8:30 p.m., with the breaking of glow sticks and lighting candles.

The sale of luminaria bags, which light the walking path, also raise money for the American Cancer Society and will be available at the park. Organizers ask that those purchasing bags bring a can or two of food to hold the bags down.

Breakfast Saturday morning will be served at 7 a.m. The meal is being provided by the VFW Post 10054.

Closing ceremonies will be at noon Saturday.

Music and activities are planned throughout Friday evening into Saturday morning and the Mammovan will be on site both Friday and Saturday.
