MANSE: Parents reminded about cold medicine policy
As the weather cools down the chance of coughs and colds increase.
At Manse Elementary School, officials are reminding parents about the proper procedures for medicines.
Students are not allowed to carry cough drops on their person, backpack, or desk.
Cough drops will be stored in the medicine cabinet at the health office.
School officials say the drops must be kept in its original packaging accompanied by a permission slip signed and dated by a parent or guardian.
Cold medications are also allowed on school grounds if necessary.

RCMS: Middle schoolers  make grade, win big
Last week students at Rosemary Clarke Middle School were recognized for their respective achievements on the Criterion Referenced Testing (CRT).
Prizes totaled roughly $1,600 per grade. Some of the students received the Nintendo Wii, two Ipods and a 30-minute plane flight over the Pahrump Valley.
Other students were awarded a Blackberry Playbook, a $100 VISA gift card, a Boom Box and various other gift cards.
The prizes were given to students who improved their scores, met or exceeded standards.
The grand prize was a brand new iPad.

MCC: Group offers          QuickBooks seminar
Mount Charleston Corporation (MCC) is offering QuickBooks training at the Great Basin College Pahrump Valley Branch Center located at 551 East Calvada Blvd. beginning Friday, October 5, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, October 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Friday class is beginners training and the main topics include getting started, setting up QuickBooks along with working with lists and working with bank accounts.
The Saturday class will explore intermediate training and other topics which include using other accounts in QuickBooks, entering sales information, receiving payments, and making deposits as well as entering and paying bills.
Advance training will be offered at a later date.
The course is limited to 25 attendees and enrollment is on a first come, first served basis. Those interested may attend either or both days.
A one day fee is $45 or $60 for both sessions.
The fee includes a training manual.
School officials say the hands-on courses allow students to receive practical training in working with QuickBooks.
Light refreshments will be served.

MCC: Credit building         class offered
Mount Charleston Corporation (MCC) will be conducting a session on “Improving Your Credit Rating” at the Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce, 1301 South Highway 160 on Friday October 19, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Major topics include: “The Importance of Having Good Credit,” “Understanding Your Credit Rating and Past History and “Things to do to Improve Your Overall Credit Rating.”
The course is limited to 25 attendees and enrollment is on a first come, first served basis.
The fee is $50 and includes presentation materials.
Light refreshments will be served.
