Desert View Hospital adds oncologist to staff

Laxmi Iyer, MD, MPH, has joined the medical staff at Desert View Hospital as an oncologist, the hospital announced last week.

She recently joined Hope Cancer Care of Nevada, specializing in all aspects of clinical hematology and oncology care, and is board-certified in general internal medicine and medical oncology.

Hope Cancer Center of Nevada is located at 2340 E. Calvada Boulevard, Suite 7., in Pahrump, Nevada. Appointments can be made by calling 775-360-4933, and walk-in patients are welcome between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Most insurances are accepted

Dr. Iyer completed her internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital and her fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center.

After earning her medical degree from Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College in Pune, India, Dr. Iyer relocated to the United States and earned a master’s degree in public health at the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston.

During her time in Houston, she also performed research in the Department of Cancer Genetics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center under the mentorship of Dr. Louise Strong.

In her spare time, Dr. Iyer enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, practicing yoga and transcendental meditation, cooking and baking.
