Dozen agencies join forces for Housing Helpdesk

A Housing Helpdesk to assist homeowners and prospective home buyers is scheduled at 9 a.m. Saturday at the NyE Communities Coalition, 1020 E. Wilson Rd.

A dozen agencies are participating, including Nevada Legal Services, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Nevada Rural Housing Authority, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development, the Hardest Hit Fund, US Vets, Silver State Fair Housing, Community Services of Nevada, NyE Communities Coalition and Nevada Outreach Training Organization.

Appointments are requested. The Housing Helpdesk will offer resources for struggling homeowners, prospective home buyers, manufactured home owners, renters, people rebuilding credit, people seeking financial education and budgeting, foreclosure recovery, down payment assistance programs, reverse mortgage counseling, home rehabilitation and improvement.

The Housing Helpdesk is being sponsored by U.S. Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev. and the NyE Communities Coalition.

Horsford, the freshman congressman for the fourth district representing the Pahrump area, will also hold a Coffee with Your Congressman from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Starbuck’s inside Albertson’s Supermarket at 200 S. Highway 160.

In the afternoon Congressman Horsford is sponsoring a Senior Resource Fair from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Inspirations Senior Living Facility, 1554 S. Java Ave. Representatives from various agencies will be available to provide information, services and community resources.

Service providers present at the senior resource fair include the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), the Social Security Administration, Desert View Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association, Valley Electric Association, the Medicare Patrol Fraud, RSVP, Nevada Office of Minority Health, SHIP and Walgreen’s Drug Stores.
