One woman was airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital after she was struck from behind by an alleged drunk driver while walking down Manse Road Wednesday night.
Terrance McCloskey was arrested after police discovered through their investigation that he had allegedly hit Theressa Whitt, while she was walking with her daughter on Manse Road near Pahrump Valley Boulevard around 7:04 p.m.
According to a declaration of arrest in the case, a Nye County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the area for a report of a hit and run incident involving a truck striking a pedestrian.
When the deputy arrived on scene, she found a woman lying in the desert to the north of Manse Road. The woman, later identified as Whitt, was bleeding from her head, but was conscious.
The daughter then told the deputy that an older model white dually truck struck her mother from behind before taking off.
Soon after the officer had arrived at the scene, an anonymous caller gave police a tip on the identity of the driver, which led the investigation to a residence in the 1200 block of Casey Road. Here police made contact with McCloskey.
At first McCloskey allegedly told police he had gone to the store and come straight home earlier that evening.
After getting his permission, police then went to look at his truck, which was parked inside the garage of his residence.
The truck reportedly had damage to both the passenger-side headlight as well as the passenger-side mirror. Deputies reportedly saw the passenger-mirror was folded in towards the truck, and shards of the broken mirror were seen lying on the floorboard and seat in the truck.
Police then began speaking with McCloskey further about his truck, and noticed that his speech was slurred and he smelled of an unknown alcoholic beverage.
McCloskey then allegedly asked to be placed in handcuffs telling officers, “I deserve to be in handcuffs.”
After being read his Miranda rights, McCloskey allegedly told police he had driven a friend home and as he was returning to his own residence, struck a woman from behind on Manse Road.
McCloskey was then placed under arrest for DUI, failure to report an accident and failure to render aid and transported to the Nye County Detention Center to be booked into custody.
Whitt was airlifted from the scene by Mercy Air to a Las Vegas area hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

What an idiot! I drink. I drive. BUT I NEVER MIX THE TWO! I like my truck, I don’t want to see it impounded. I like my drivers license, I don’t want it taken away. I hate my job, but I sure don’t want to lose it. We have a thing in this town called PAHRUMP VALLEY TAXI! The woman that drives the minivan has taken me home several times. I wouldn’t want to live the rest of my life knowing that I was responsible for possibly crippling or killing an innocent person’s life! I wish Mrs. Whitt and full and speedy recovery.
In addition Mr. McCloskey will be wearing a striped jumpsuit for a few years also.
Seems to me that it would not have happened if she was walking on the left side of the road like she was supposed to.
@itsme
That’s Nevada for ya. They got these crazy laws that say drunk hit-and-run drivers can’t run anybody down no matter what side of the road they are on.
By the way, maybe you can educate me, what law is it that says what side of the road someone is supposed to walk on ?
Hmmm… Apparently you never listened to your mother when she told you to always walk on the left side of the road. That way, facing on-coming traffic, a drunk can’t sneak up behind you and it is very unlikely that someone coming from the other direction will cross over the road to whack you.
It has been my experience here in Pahrump that pedestrians are very arrogant and virtually dare you to hit them.
An old Indian chief once told me that “…it’s a poor set of legs that will stand around and let a body take a beating.” You walk where you want but don’t whine when you get whacked.
Driving drunk and leaving the scene of an accident are against the law no matter where the pedestrian was walking.
NRS 484B.297 Walking along and upon highways; solicitation of ride, business or contribution from driver or occupant of vehicle prohibited in certain circumstances; intoxicated pedestrian prohibited within traveled portion of highway; applicability to riders of animals; penalty.
1. Where sidewalks are provided, it is unlawful for any pedestrian to walk along and upon an adjacent highway.
2. Pedestrians walking along highways where sidewalks are not provided shall walk on the left side of those highways facing the approaching traffic.
3. A person shall not stand in a highway to solicit a ride or any business from the driver or any occupant of a vehicle. A person shall not, without a permit issued pursuant to NRS 244.3555 or 268.423, solicit any contribution from the driver or any occupant of a vehicle.
4. It is unlawful for any pedestrian who is under the influence of intoxicating liquors or any narcotic or stupefying drug to be within the traveled portion of any highway.
5. The provisions of this section apply to riders of animals, except that the provisions of subsections 1, 2 and 3 do not apply to a peace officer who rides an animal while performing his or her duties as a peace officer.
6. A person who violates the provisions of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor.

Driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol is a serious problem here in the valley. Over the past year there have been several reports of citizens ran over while walking along the roads. I doubt it would make any difference in most cases which way the victim was facing. To me the worst part of this case is the driver running off and leaving the victim in such a way, he was right when he finally fessed and and said he needed to be in handcuffs.
apparently you never listened to anyone with an I.Q. over 30. drinking and driving is a crime.
the woman is in no way responsible for this accident.
it sounds like you are either a driver who likes to get behind the wheel after to many drinks or someone who supports drunk driving.
either way…. you are just wrong.
All that language deals with highways. Do you think Manse Road qualifies as a highway ?
Well there ya go “itsme”! I think Mrs Whitt outta be given a ticket for walking on the wrong side of the road. Maybe a deputy should run out to Vegas and hand deliver it to her while she’s in the hospital. After all, she was in the wrong! You know what? Arrogant or not, wrong side of the road or not, it’s our job, no, it’s our responsibilty as motor vehicle operators to watch out for pedestrians! I guess if Mrs. Whitt had been a 6 y/o child playing ball ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD, then it still would have been completely understandable why some drunk idiot ran over her? Probably not then, hah? It doesn’t matter whether she was on the wrong side of the road, in the road or floating over the road on a magic carpet, NO ONE should be driving an 6,000+ lb. truck while intoxicated! Ya know what, “itsme”? You should be defense council for Mr. McCloskey. Tell the Judge that the only reason he hit her was because she was in the wrong. See how that goes.
Have a great day.
Do you suppose that those eight people last week in Vegas were on the wrong side of the (highway)?
You are ridiculous! I cant believe you would say some stupid sh** like that. I think that there are too many dam bars in town. What else is there to do? You wonder why people drive drunk, its stupid to think people are going to go to a bar, drink, then call a cab! Its obvious to me! If I was a cop, I’d sit outside the bars and Pull people over.
And not to mention that Manse rd has no sidewalks, barely any street lights! I hope he gets a long time! And if that was my Mom he hit, he’d be lucky just to get jail time. A**hole.
