Hollywood hair at local salon

By Charlene Dean

Ladies and gentlemen alike can have their hair done locally by a former stylist to the stars.

Connie Roth opened World Famous Cuts N Do’s last week at 1141 S. Highway 160, Suite 5, in the Pahrump Station Plaza.

Roth owned two hair salons in Hollywood during the 70s and 80s, and has cut and styled the hair of heartthrob Ricky Nelson, country and western singer Dwight Yoakam, the Doors band members, actors Jeff Goldblum and John Larroquette, members of the new wave group the Go-Go’s and many more. “I went on tour with the Go-Go’s in the 80s, and Belinda Carlisle was my roommate for a while,” said Roth.

Roth isn’t pretentious, it’s just her life. She said she is mentioned in Ricky Nelson’s autobiography, which is due to be released soon, and is also mentioned in Belinda Carlisle’s book “Lips Unsealed.”

Roth said she closed her two salons in Hollywood because family was more important to her. “I had three kids,” she said. “I didn’t want to close the salons, I had to.”

With Hollywood behind her, Roth moved to Las Vegas where she met and married Tribe MC President Dan Roth “My husband was from Pahrump, so I left Vegas and moved here,” she said. Roth has been a local resident for eight years.

Roth said she set up a Facebook page under her Hollywood name, Connie Clarksville, titled “World Famous Cuts N Do’s Rocked in the 70s and 80s.”

She said to her surprise, she began to reconnect with her friends from Hollywood. “I have over 600 fans on the Facebook page and everyone wanted to know why I wasn’t styling hair anymore. Actually, it was my fans who inspired me to go back to school and get my license.”

Roth said she let her beautician’s license expire and essentially had to go through cosmetology school all over again. “It was a good thing,” she said. “I learned so much. Styling is much different than when I got my license in the 70s and I’m a better hairdresser because of it.”

Her salon reflects her personality. Roth is an Elvis fan and said the décor reflects her “rockabilly influences.”

So far, Roth has one other stylist taking appointments, Barbara Scoloro from Absolutely You, another salon in town. She has other chair space for lease as well.

Roth said she plans to have full cosmetology licensure by August, and at that point will be expanding her services to offer nails and more. At present, she is only cutting and styling and offering hair coloring and perms.

Her pricing is in line with her location. “This isn’t Hollywood,” Roth laughed. “My fees are $15 and up.”

The salon is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and closed Sunday and Monday. Call 751-6762 to make an appointment or get more information.
