Local consignment business hosting event in Pahrump

When Diana Spencer-Saum opened her business last June, she didn’t know what kind of community response to expect.

Fast-forward to today, and Spencer-Saum believes she made the right decision.

Nye Emporium, a consignment business at 850 South Lola Lane, offers customers a different way to shop.

Out of the handful of consignment shops in the Pahrump Valley, Spencer-Saum said that her shop stands apart from the rest.

“I have a lot of new customers coming in as well as my regular customers and my vendors and consigners,” she said. “It has been very, very overwhelming. This month, I am offering customers, with every purchase, to be eligible for a drawing I will have on Saturday, May 20th.”

Some of the items up for grabs for the drawing include a 40-inch flat screen television, a new 32-inch flat-screen television and a brand new 24-inch flat-screen television.

“I’m also giving away jewelry and sports earbuds, Bluetooth speakers, crystal, watches, pool cue cases and a Taser,” she said. “Every day I am adding more items to the drawing. I like to call it a customer appreciation event. It’s also my birthday. We will be having specials going on, including half-price specials. One of my vendors is offering half-prices on all of his weapon accessories. I will have several vendors on premises.”

Since opening, Spencer-Saum said the experience has been a learning process all along.

“I still do a lot of consignment items and now I am able to purchase more items directly,” she said. “I also still do a lot of purchasing, and in fact, I’m doing a lot more purchasing now than I’ve done in the past. People can either come to my business, or I can set up an appointment to meet with them to view the items they want to sell. I will take an inventory and do a sheet, and give you a price which I will purchase your items for.”

Individuals with just a few items to sell may bring them to the business, Spencer-Saum said.

“You can either drop them off on consignment or we can work out a deal where I can purchase them outright where you will get your money right away,” she said. “This year has been overwhelming and I just wanted to say thank you to everybody who comes in and this customer appreciation event is just a little way I can do that.”

On the issue of her inventory, Spencer-Saum said she literally carries just about everything, including a real kitchen sink in the 4,500 square-foot facility.

“If you are looking for something unusual, or you’re looking for something that you can’t find anywhere else, surely you can find it here,” she said. “If anyone has a question, they can call me at 775-727-6565.”
