Man arrested on forgery and burglary charges

A Pahrump man was arrested Friday on several charges including forgery and burglary, according to Nye County Sheriff’s Office.

Eric Bowers, 42, was arrested after police were dispatched to a fraud call, and during their investigation they discovered that he had allegedly stolen checks from an unnamed victim while he was out of town.

Bowers was able to cash one check in the amount of $25,000, but a second attempt at cashing another check for $22,000 was halted by the banking institution, police records state.

After the victim arrived back into town he discovered that Bowers had locked him out of his own residence, police said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the residence and aided the victim in entering his home, and discovered Bowers inside.

Bowers was charged with burglary, two counts of forgery, two counts of uttering a forged instrument, two counts of obtaining money under false pretenses, two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle. He is being held at the Nye County Detention Center $37,500 on bail.

Continuing their investigation at the residence, police found evidence of the check theft, evidence of the checks being cashed, and evidence of the money being spent.

Also discovered in the investigation was a vehicle in the garage of the residence that did not belong to the victim. It was discovered that the vehicle was stolen in Las Vegas days earlier during an armed robbery and investigation revealed that Bowers was involved in that crime as well, police said.

Information relating to the vehicle and the robbery was turned over to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for investigation in their jurisdiction, police said.
