Pahrump woman arrested for felony child abuse

A Pahrump woman was arrested on preliminary felony child abuse charges Tuesday after police were dispatched to a local elementary school.

Kathleen Davies, 43, was arrested after Nye County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives received a report that there was a student suspected of being a victim of child abuse.

According to police, they discovered that the child had several bruises, other injuries to include what was believed to be a broken nose.

Interviews were conducted and it was identified that the child was hit as a form of  "punishment".

The child was taken for a medical exam and the medical exam identified the injuries were consistent with child abuse.

According to police, Davies was contacted and admitted to physical discipline on the victim. Davies also admitted to being aware of physical discipline that she sometimes felt was excessive.

Davies was arrested and transported to the Nye County Detention Center and was booked in on the above charge. Her preliminary bail was $5,000.

All children in the home were placed in protective custody. Davies’ relationship to the victim or the other children in the home was not disclosed.

Detectives are following up on several leads. The public is encouraged to contact the Nye County Sheriff's Office with any information regarding this case at 775-751-7000 or Detective Tippetts at NCSO_Detectives@co.nye.nv.us
