On Wednesday, Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo called the media in to talk about comments made by Town Manager Bill Kohbarger on a local television station the night before.
Kohbarger never identified the sheriff by name during the broadcast but referred to him as a “white-haired elected official.” Kohbarger also called DeMeo “a white-haired gossip king.”
“I don’t understand why Bill Kohbarger’s tongue is dripping with disdain for me,” said DeMeo. “He made it personal.”
DeMeo said many times during his press conference that “this is about the business of the people and shouldn’t be made personal.” But the sheriff admitted he was justifiably mad.
“This personal attack against me is uncalled for. I represent all of the people in Nye County. I represent the people of Pahrump as well.”
DeMeo pointed out that Jeff Bobeck was not informed that Kohbarger, town board member Vicky Parker and town attorney Rick Campbell arranged to meet with state Sen. Mike McGinness to discuss the process of incorporating Pahrump by vote of the state Senate, rather than by placing the issue on the general election for a vote.
“For these people to not even talk to Jeff Bobeck, who is the chairman of the Incorporation Advisory Board, is intolerable,” DeMeo said.
In fact, no other board members were notified, but Chairman Nicole Shupp could not be reached. It is believed she is vacationing out of state.
Vice Chairman Bill Dolan said it is not necessary to advise each board member about every meeting. However, member Frank Maurizio said something as important as traveling to Fallon to see McGinness should have been discussed.
Parker said, “The meeting was in the works for a couple of months. We spent all that money on the incorporation feasibility study and three years of work by citizens volunteering their time prior to this. But we have to go with the senator’s schedule.” She also said she intended to report on the meeting to the board in the normal course of business.
“This should have been a very simple trip,” said Parker. “All this isn’t fair to Sen. McGinness. He doesn’t need the aggravation.”
Kohbarger said the meeting was placed on the internal town calendar that is accessible on the town’s intranet when the date was confirmed. Maurizio, however, said he wasn’t aware the calendar was available before it was officially released each month by the town manager.
According to Kohbarger, the printed version of the calendar was released after the meeting with McGinness took place on Aug. 27.
DeMeo said the controversy could have been avoided if Kohbarger, Parker or Campbell had admitted they were going to meet with McGinness.
“They chose not to answer my question,” said DeMeo. “What are they hiding? Now it looks like they are basically becoming deceitful. If I was investigating this as a crime, there is probable cause here to make allegations that they are being deceitful or they are incompetent. Either one — there is no middle ground here.”
DeMeo also said he felt discouraged. “He went on the radio and said I didn’t have the facts. All I did was ask a question of a state senator and he said yes, the town set up a meeting. Is this skullduggery? Is this subversion? I don’t know.”

Amen Brother,Kohbarger, Campbell and Parker are acting like scoundrels – and I don’t want no more cottin’ pickin’ scoundrels working in OUR government.
Do you?
“This should have been a very simple trip,” said Parker. “All this isn’t fair to Sen. McGinness. He doesn’t need the aggravation.”
Is Ms Parker telling us to leave poor Mr. McGinness out of the mess, the mess that she and the town manager created. Maybe he needs to hear from us lowly constituents more often.
During her campaign Ms Parker told me, in response to my spciict question on whas she inf favor of incorporation “The people have voted and the will of the people should stand” either she lied or has now had a change in position. Kohbarger seems to view his job as to incorporate our town. Regardless of the desires of thee community. I leved in Pahrump in 2000 and I must say I do not know where he got the population figures.
Solution put the issue on the ballot and abide by the results.
As for
Parker needs to be recalled. Shuup and Dolan need to be voted OUT, Kohbarger needs to be fired. JMHO of course.
BTW…lets hire a new Town Attorney also, these out of town guys are going to bankrupt us.
I seriously doubt that Sen. McGinness NEEDED the “aggravation” of Ms. Parker and her entourage concerning the “shadow” trip to Fallon.
“incorporating Pahrump by vote of the state Senate, rather than by placing the issue on the general election for a vote.” Talk about the back door method. The people have spoken from many years at election time and it has always been a firm NO. I don’t see that answer changing anytime soon.
Isn’t this the same town manager who tried to outlaw all guns in this county. Which is a violation of the Federal AND State constitution. By the way. Does anyone know how much money he makes as town manager. I’ll bet it is too much. So our town manager thinks he knows what is best for Pahrump, and the people don’t. Hmmm. I’ll bet if the town incorporated he would vote himself a big fat raise. Who is greasing his palm????? He should have been fired years ago.
He makes $190,000 will benefits. Also has a back door contract.
Glad you used the word incompetent Tony… it perfectly describes you!
Statements like this are just lies…”Kohbarger, town board member Vicky Parker and town attorney Rick Campbell arranged to meet with state Sen. Mike McGinness to discuss the process of incorporating Pahrump by vote of the state Senate, rather than by placing the issue on the general election for a vote.”
Any thoughts to what you’ll be doing with all your free time come November?

Another idiot in Pahrump who takes everything anyone says as gospel. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!
GO TONY GO!!!!
Stop being so hard on our sheriff damn I think he’s done a great job and if God willing he will stay or someone new will be there stop badgering him it will happen the way the good Lord wants it and guess what we have deal with it which ever way.
I can’t stand whiny people …
Sherrif DeMeo did the right thing. Stop picking on him!!! This incorporation thing has been going on for years, and each time it has come up for a vote, it has been turned down. How many times do we have to vote on this for some of the members of the Town Board to understand? No Incorporation! It would be the worst thing that could happed to Pahrump because taxes & fees would go up for those who live within the incorporated Pahrump. Those who want to incorporate are power / money seekers. …If we incorporate, Sherrif DeMeo would not be our Sherrif because as an incorporated city, Pahrump would have it’s own Police & Fire Department, along with all the expenses of salaries & retirments, plus we would still have to pay a share of County costs. Just look at the incorporated Las Vegas City v. unincorporated Clark County, the City has higher taxes. No to incorporation!
The People have a Right to Vote on In Corporation.
Quite clear their is something Shady going on in Parhump.
I suggest the City Manager finds a new Job.
HAVE LIVED HERE SINCE 2001 , AND WE STILL HAVE THOSE DIRTY POLOTICS AND PEOPLE WITH HIDDEN AGENDA S. WHEN DO WE GET ENOUGH VOTES TO GET RID OF THESE PROPLE ONCE AND FOR ALL .
Oh … it’s for things we do not want , or need.
Why do we have paved streets with NO BUILDINGS on them , and resdential areas that are still dirt , or gravel .
Why was Ron Yao ( COUNTY ENGINEER ) FIRED , and GIVEN a large ” BONUS ” ? ? ?
SOMETHING STINKS HERE .. Anybodyu want to buy my house which is now appraised at $ 70 k less than what is owed ?
