Sources: Jail guard resigns when inmate food goes missing

By Kelsey Givens

A former sheriff’s deputy who worked at the Nye County Detention Center is refuting claims that she resigned from her post for stealing food meant for inmates.

The Pahrump Valley Times, however, was able to confirm through more than one source that videotapes of the suspected food thefts did occur.

The officer in question is former Deputy Tracy McIntyre.

Reached by phone, McIntyre said the allegations aren’t true.

“I resigned to stay home and take care of my sick husband,” she said. “He’s been sick for the last four going on five years, and it’s gotten bad within the last year.”

She says rumors that she was stealing food from the jail’s kitchen freezer arose shortly after her departure from the department.

According to several anonymous sources within the sheriff’s office, McIntyre decided to quit when she realized she had been caught.

Sheriff Tony DeMeo said he couldn’t comment on any allegations, if there were any, as they would be considered a personnel issue.

McIntyre worked the graveyard shift at the jail along with another employee who has also since turned in his resignation.

Former Deputy Tim Huldermann said he worked day in and day out with McIntyre and doesn’t believe the accusations are true.

“I never ever saw Mac do anything unlawful or against the rules,” he said. “She was a pleasure to work with, and good with the inmates. I never saw any indiscretion.”

In fact, she was the only reason Huldermann chose to stay in his job at the jail.

Huldermann said he didn’t approve of nor appreciate many of the policies and procedures currently in place at the sheriff’s office, including the way inmates were booked and charged when they came into the detention center.

“That’s why I resigned,” he said.

Though Huldermann quit due to a conflict of interest with his position, some began to wonder if he had known about the alleged stealing or had been in on it himself.

He said he wasn’t involved and knew nothing of the rumored rule breaking.

“I couldn’t get to the jail fast enough to turn in my resignation” once he had learned McIntyre had resigned, he said. “The only thing I’m guilty of is not giving them a two-week notice.”

Huldermann plans on running for sheriff in the next election for that office. He said he wonders if someone in the department purposely released news of his and McIntyre’s resignations so close together to “dirty the water” for his future campaign.

“The way it was done made it look like I was involved as well. Many employees have come up to me asking if I was involved when I wasn’t,” he said.

According to Huldermann any allegations against his former co-worker should have been kept confidential, but now it seems everyone in the force knows about them.

Sources indicate that officials are investigating whether thefts from the jail’s food stocks were confined to just one officer.

Huldermann has more time in law enforcement and more training than anyone in that department! He has my full support if he does in fact run for Sheriff. Rick Marshall seems to be the only inside source. (PVT EDIT: Limit your comments to the subject of the story above.)

Scott, you’re a good guy. I liked you when I met you while you were campaigning here in Pahrump, but you lost the election. Your relentless sour grapes makes you small and petty. Please move on, have a happy life, and leave the politics to the folks who live here.

well there goes any chance Huldermann had for any kind of chance he had at running for sheriff.
the second coble endorses anyone the lose.

Huldermann is law enforcement. He was over qualified for the position he held at the Nye County Sherriffs Office. Clearly. But with a smart mind, and a lot of time on his hands, not to mention a hardy California Highway Patrol retirement check! Reasonably so- Why not go to work with the local Sherrifs office? Nothing else to do! Only unfortunately to find the inmates to be more personable than coworkers..

More than one source. Video tape evidence. Of course, the prisons are full off innocent people who were railroaded by “the system.”

  5. PVDesert says:

Oh please Huldermann has more experience than anyone one the Department, He might have training for being in Law Enforcement that’s about it. As far as running for Sheriff, What a joke that would be, just wait for the Citizens of Nye County learn on how rude and unpleasant he was to talk to. His own people he worked with at Nye County couldn’t stand dealing with him because of how rude he was. That’s why he had conversations with the inmates.

If in fact there is video proof that the former employee stole food from the Jail, then the county prosecutor needs to step up and file charges. I’m sick and tired about reading of county employees stealing from us.

I worked with Huldermann for years in Calif. He’s a great guy who doesn’t suffer fools well.
He is someone I admire and will FULLY support if he runs for sheriff.

“I worked with Huldermann for years in Calif. ”

Well.. that settles it for me. It matters not if he is guilty of anything, just the fact that he is from California tells me all I need to know.

Last thing Pahrump needs is more California gun banning left wing types.

Then why no arrest? I mean they are quick to arrest cops in Nye County, right?

  9. Joe Thomas says:

Another highway patrolman wants to be sheriff.

No thanks – I’ll stick with my candidate.

Cobel stated “Rick Marshall seems to be the only inside source”, and he knows this … how? Still trying to stir the pot from Texas.

although i know you have a right to state your opinion… i just want to say that no one wants it.
we didn’t want it when you lived here and we sure as heck don’t want it now.
please try and control your urges and stop trying to cause trouble from a thousand miles away.

By gees they must feed the crims in yank gaols well.

There would be no chance of a screw ever pinching tucker from a gaol in Australia, it’s usually crap!

  11. Justice is Coming says:

Cobel is right. If there is video proof than why wasn’t the deputy arrested? They have arrested other deputies on nothing more than the word of a scumbag. As far as information leaving the department and making it’s way to the press, only DeMeo or Marshall have the keys to that vehicle. Face it we need change and that does not mean Marshall.

    • Joe Thomas says:

You’re kidding, right? You think only the sheriff or assistant sheriff are the only cops that have knowledge of stuff going on in the cop shop. You think other employees don’t know what is happening AND would not talk to the press? For centuries, reporters have had access to sources other than top management personnel.
