Suspect arrested in wedding shooting that left two injured

A shooting at a wedding reception over the weekend left two people injured.

Late Tuesday, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office announced an arrest in the case.

Angel Meraz-Salcido, 49, was arrested in connection with the shooting and faces preliminary charges of attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm, aim/discharge firearm at person, child abuse/neglect, and mayhem.

Meraz-Salcido is being held on $717,500 bail.

No further details were available at press time but the investigation is ongoing.

Nye County Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives responded to a call of shots fired at a wedding reception in the northern part of Pahrump Saturday night.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered two victims were shot. One had been shot his face and another shot in his foot. Both victims were responsive and transported to medical facilities for treatment.

“Mercy Air 21 was unavailable, therefore both patients were transported to the local hospital,” said Scott Lewis, Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue chief. “Ground crews took at least one patient to UMC trauma in short fashion.”

Lewis said fire crews were staged at the corner of Bannavitch Street and Mesquite Avenue before the scene was secured by sheriff’s deputies.

The suspect in the incident was not located on the scene and wasn’t identified until later. The sheriff’s office asks that that if anyone has information in regard to the shooting incident, to please contact them at 775-751-7000 or on their Secret Witness line at 1-800-794-9834.
