COMMUNITY VIEWPOINT: Introducing cutting-edge optical fiber broadband service

Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) recently announced its plans to provide optical fiber broadband communications service to all homes and businesses in our service area.

VEA recognizes the growing need for improved high-speed communications and Internet service, and we look forward to offering the most advanced communications network in the valley.

The introduction of optical fiber broadband represents a significant milestone for VEA as we continue our tradition of innovation for the benefit of our communities. Having fast, reliable optical fiber broadband service will serve to benefit local schools, libraries and community centers by allowing students and other community members to more quickly and readily access the vast cultural and educational resources available on the Internet.

VEA’s optical fiber broadband service will improve the quality of life for residents of our communities by opening a wealth of entertainment choices and making it easier to communicate with friends and family members across the world. In addition, it will increase opportunities for businesses throughout VEA’s service territory, providing greater access to resources and markets around the globe.

We plan to introduce this service in the near future, offering a new, high-speed communications service directly from VEA’s advanced optical fiber network.

Local residents will soon have a first-hand opportunity to experience the service as our cooperative works to connect the Pahrump Community Library to VEA’s optical fiber network free of charge and provide the facility with free broadband communications service. VEA takes tremendous pride in being able to support the educational needs in our communities with this new and exciting technology.

During the past 50 years, VEA has built upon its position as a forward-thinking organization that responds to the needs of its neighbors in southwestern Nevada. We have earned this reputation over the years, and we look forward to continuing our unwavering commitment to the development of innovative opportunities.

VEA is building a talented team of individuals who are dedicated to introducing faster communications service in all of our communities.

We recently distributed a survey to residents of our service area to gather their valuable feedback on our cooperative’s efforts to provide optical fiber broadband service. Thank you to those of you who participated in this survey, as your guidance will play an important role in identifying the specific services needed in our communities.

Details about VEA’s optical fiber broadband service will be forthcoming after we thoroughly evaluate the results of the survey.

Tom Husted has served as the CEO of VEA since 2006. He has more than 30 years of experience in the utility industry across the Western United States, including more than 20 years as a CEO. Each monthly edition of VEA’s Ruralite magazine features a column from Husted, offering his thoughts about issues affecting the cooperative and the communities it serves.
