Cross-country travels to the beach

Pahrump Valley’s cross-country teams traveled to California to compete in the highly-competitive Central Park Invitational in Huntington Beach, California.

The Trojans boys and girls were given a break from the Nevada desert scenery and ran next to the waves of the Pacific Ocean. This was the second year that coach Matt Kolodzieczyk has taken his team to this meet.

The team went up against tough competition in their divisions, which had 18 teams in the boys division with 124 runners. The boys team finished in seventh place with the top Trojans runner, senior Bryce Odegard (16 minutes, 13.6 seconds) finishing in third place in the three-mile race.

Odegard lost to Osvaldo Cervantes (15:38.6) of Nogales, who finished in first place and Alec Nguyen (16:05.7) of Rosemead finishing in second.

Other Pahrump runners

Sophomore Michael Sonerholm (17:46.9) finished in 36th place, senior Cole Goodman (18:02.7) 45th, sophomore Grant Odegard (18:16.1) 51st, junior Jacob Cipollini (19:04.9) 75th, sophomore Brandon Ruud (19:23.9) 80th, and senior Layron Sonerholm (21:14.7) 108th.

Girls cross-country

The Trojans girls cross-country did well, finishing sixth among 11 teams and 97 runners on the three-mile course.

Sophomore Diamond Sonerholm was the first girl to cross the line for the girls team, finishing in 20th place (21:38.9).
