The Mojave Rattlers came to town looking to be a spoiler. The Rattlers had no chance of gaining any ground on Pahrump, but they could decide if the Trojans finished second or third. They did by winning 11-9.
Trojans coach Ely Armendariz said before the game that he hoped to keep his team healthy and he said he was going to take Mojave serously because his team knows Mojave would love to ruin Pahrump’s chances as the second place seed.
The Trojans whipped Mojave at home 12-3 in their last meeting with the Rattlers.
Mojave (4-5) had nothing to lose being the fourth place seed and two full games behind the Trojans (6-3) going into Wednesday’s game.
It was a real slugfest on both sides with both teams getting their share of hits. Pahrump had 13 hits but still managed to come up short with only nine runs to Mojave’s 11. Errors played a role in scoring as the Trojans had five and so did Mojave.
The girls went into the game hoping to secure home-field advantage in the first two games of the regional playoffs. With the loss, the Trojans take third place and must go on the road to play Moapa Valley on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
Pahrump honored the following five seniors before the game: Melanie Lawdensky, Kristal Kaiwi, Whitney Roderick, Bryana Soliwoda and Audrey MacRae.
Stats: Jodan Egan: 1-2B; Bryana Soliwoda: 1-2B; Kristal Kaiwi: 2 hits, 2-2B.
