Horace Langford Jr. / Pahrump Valley Times - Amanda Pryor is seen here hitting earlier in the season. On Monday she helped beat the Mojave Rattlers by hitting a double and a home run.
On paper the two teams were even, both teams had lost to Cheyenne and Faith Lutheran and both teams had beaten Western and Clark, but that is where the similarities stopped. Pahrump proved this by beating the Mojave Rattlers at the plate 12-3.
On game day on Monday, it was all Lady Trojans. They attacked the ball at the plate, scoring 12 runs with 10 hits. Amanda Pryor went 3-5 with 1-2B and 1 home run and 2 RBIs. She was helped by Whitney Roderick, who went 2-5 with 1-2B and Lauren Koenig, who also had 1-2B. Kristal Kaiwi added to the carnage with 3 RBIs.
Roderick pitched 7 innings and had 6 hits with 11 strikeouts.
Last week the Trojans were at Majestic Park in Las Vegas. The girls played five games and won 1. Trojans Coach Eli Armendariz believed his team could have played better.
“We could have won the first two. Again we beat ourselves. We just didn’t do what we were supposed to do. We are comparable to these teams. In our last game, we beat a team from Long Beach 6-1,” he said. “We made fielding errors and left people on base. We looked sluggish. Against Mojave we’d better be ready. They lost to the two teams we lost to. We will see if we show up today.”
Trojans improve to 3-2 in league play and are in third place. The team faces Cheyenne today in Las Vegas at 3:30 p.m. for a conference game and the start of the second half of the season.
