Three Trojans hope to make state
Three Trojans on the womens golf team made it to regionals, which was held this year at Boulder Creek Golf Course on Thursday. The results of the Tournament will be posted on Wednesday.
The three golfers who qualified are sophomore Natalie King, junior Jayde Woodworth and sophomore Courtney Berry.
The top three teams from regionals will go on to state and after that the top five individuals will qualify for state. To make it the team has to be 120-over par and shoot a 408 as a team. Last year Woodworth was able to do this.
Floyd had one freshman golfer who barely missed the cutoff.
“The only one that did not qualify that I was hoping would qualify is Riley Moore. She just barely made it, but she is just a freshman and that gives her something to work for next year,” Floyd said.
Floyd was very optimistic about next year.
“We should be able to make the team qualifying standards next year,” she said. “If our team can make it in the 90s we have a chance. As far as the three girls, I am proud of them, all three girls have worked hard on their games for this season. This will be Jayde’s and Natalie’s second appearance in regionals. Jayde’s strength is just having the experience and being there and doing it. It will be Courtney’s first time in regionals. Hopefully all three will qualify for state.”
Floyd had hinted about retirement this year, but has yet to make an official announcement. Floyd has coached for the past 29 years and has five state championships. This year she was recently inducted into the Pahrump Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
