Trojans defeat Mojave; clinch second-place seed

The Mojave Rattlers came to Pahrump for the final game of the regular season. Pahrump, at 7-2 with their only losses to Faith Lutheran, secured second place and beat Mojave 7-3 to improve to 8-2.

Mojave is the third place team at 6-4 and had a chance to even it up with Pahrump. The last time the two teams met was in April and Pahrump beat them 5-4 on April 21. In that game, both teams had six hits and four errors each. The Trojans held on to their second place seed in the playoffs. A loss to Mojave would have jeopardized that and the home field advantage.

The Trojans scored 2 in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd and 1 in the 6th. Devin Rily pitched 5 innings and was the winning pitcher. Josh Mortensen got the save. The Trojans had 8 hits to Mojave’s 9.

The team honored the following seniors before the game: Christian Balding, Richard Greene, Cody Kovatch, Drew Middleton, Devin Rily, AJ Segura, Joshua Thomassian, and Chad Uyeno.

Dylan Ault had two hits and a double and Chad Uyeno had 3 hits and a double. Richard Greene also contributed a double.

The Trojans will play Tech at home on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Tech is the third place seed with an 8-3 record and on April 4 came out to Pahrump and lost 8-7.
