There’s nothing better than having a good time and benefiting a good cause at the same time and an event this weekend will offer just that.
The Our Lady of the Valley Knights of Columbus Pahrump chapter is hosting their 2nd annual Oktoberfest celebration Saturday.
The event runs from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, in the church hall, with various food and drinks available for all to enjoy.
Bratwursts, German potato salad, sauerkraut and dessert will be offered to all adults for a fee of $10 and kids can get a hot dog and a bag of chips for $3. Soft drinks, beer and wine will be available for an additional cost.
So far the advanced ticket sales have been strong as event organizer Bill Retig explained there has been solid interest shown by residents.
“It has been pretty good,” Retig said. “Actually, it is better than we thought it would be at this point because of the newspapers giving us good plugs.”
Retig said that they hope to draw 200 people to the event and with the early response he doesn’t think that’s out of the question.
“Right now with the advanced sales that we have gotten and the usual last-minute people showing up at the door I’d say that we will get near the goal,” he said.
Although those interested in attending are urged to purchase their tickets ahead of time, Retig said that any unsold tickets will be available at the door.
The proceeds from the event are spread out to several different causes as Retig said they like to help out as many charities as they can.
“Some will be going to the Special Olympics, some will go toward helping purchase an ultrasound machine, local baseball and softball teams,” he said. “We like to keep it open so when people come to us for help we are available and to not throw all of our eggs into one basket.”
Last year’s event pulled in around $2,500 and Retig expects that number to grow this year.
So go on down to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and enjoy some good food, fill up your bierkrug and get into the Oktoberfest spirit and help locals in need at the same time.
“Everyone is welcome, so come on out and have a great time,” Retig said.
