Concerned friends and family of Pahrump’s residents facing hardships organize various benefits around town. Usually they are held at venues such as bars, meeting places and public facilities. Not this time.
A fundraiser for a much beloved mentor of the younger generation will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sept. 14 at Lowlife Tattoo Studio on Loop Road. The proceeds will help Roxann Houser with medical expenses incurred inher battle with lymphoma.
Organizers Jonathan Tafoya, owner of the tattoo studio, and Glenda Stiles have arranged an all-day event featuring $20 cancer ribbon tats. Tafoya said, “The proceeds will go to Roxann. We need to be supportive of her and everyone who has either lost a loved one or is a caregiver to a cancer patient. It’s rough on those close to the illness.”
There will also be a hot dog and hamburger barbecue with chips and water or soda. Hot dogs will be $3 and hamburgers $4.
Stiles said she and several friends have approached local businesses for donations to raffle. So far those include, dinner for two at Heath’s Laff Factory, dinner for two at Romero’s Mexican Restaurant, several nail and hair-care services from Sirens, Touch of Gold and others. Horizon Market has donated hot Italian beef sandwiches and Chicago dogs. Dirt and Glitter has donated jewelry and there will be $100 worth of house cleaning services up for grabs in the raffles. The drawings will be at 2 p.m. During the event, periodic 50/50 raffles will be held, and anyone making a donation of $20 or more to the cause will get a T-shirt.
While patrons wait for a tattoo, live music will be provided from 10 a.m. to noon by Cole Reeves. DJ “Breadman” takes over from noon until 5 p.m.
