A local organization is hosting a free community event and fundraiser at the Calvada Eye duck pond on Saturday.
Officials with Pets are Worth Saving, a nonprofit group, are hoping for a large turnout from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., for the “extravaganza.”
The organization was established in Pahrump roughly a year ago.
Volunteer Therese Harke said the agency can assist pet owners with numerous services, ranging from emergency vet care to low-cost shots and neutering.
“The event is called the ‘Pets Are Worth Saving Extravaganza’ and we are hoping to be able to raise awareness as to what we do,” she said. “We also do education, training and we have our senior to senior foster program. We have a lot of money going out, but unfortunately we don’t have a lot of money coming in.”
The event, Harke said, will feature entertainment from the likes of Pahrump’s VIP All Stars dance team, and a concert by the group ‘Chimps on a Blimp.’
Numerous vendors will also set up shop at the location.
“Deanna O’Donnell will be our disc jockey and we have all kinds of raffles going on and quite a few vendors coming in. We also have animal placements available. There is no cost to attend this event except if you want to buy something from our vendors of course. During the event, we will have dogs and cats available for home placement.”
Additionally, Harke said there are several attractions for the valley’s kids to enjoy.
“We will have a bounce house, as well as face painting and there will be all kinds of kids’ games with prizes,” she said. “This is a family-friendly event, and we will be raffling off prizes all day. They range from a stay at the Holiday Inn Express and we have tickets for a show at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. We have many gift certificates for all kinds of different items. This was all put together by volunteers where we work out of our homes and therefore we don’t have a lot of overhead costs. All the money that comes in goes directly to the pets.”
