Officials at the Pahrump Valley Museum announced the return of their annual lecture series.
The first speaker of 2016 is museum board member Tim France on Saturday.
Museum Director Marilyn Davis said France’s expertise will focus on the Johnnie Mine, just north of Pahrump.
“France arrived in Nevada in 1995 and moved to Pahrump in 2005,” she said. “He describes himself as a historical explorer who actively searches out documented and undocumented historical sites, where he records the finds with photographs and other methods. Tim has explored Death Valley, the Mojave Desert and the mountainous areas surrounding the Pahrump Valley.
In addition to his interest in history, France is also a prospector and self-proclaimed “extreme collector” of maps and diaries.
Davis said he has also worked with the Library of Congress scanning documents.
“He will share the history of the Johnnie Mine District from the 1880’s through the 1900’s, which was the most exciting time in mining for that area,” she said.
The lecture is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 9, at 1 p.m.
The museum is located at 401 East Basin Ave.
