Beatty is holding its annual celebration called “An Old-Fashioned 4th of July.” The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Beatty Elementary School at 301 Fourth St. and end up at Cottonwood Park on Main St. where the celebration will be held.
The family activities include an egg toss, sack races, three legged race, running races and watermelon eating contest. This year a dunk tank will be added.
Hamburgers and hot dogs, raffle tickets and dunk tank balls will be available for purchase. Proceeds will go to the support of the Beatty Volunteer Fire Department. It is recommended that attendees bring blankets, lawn chairs and shade devices.
The park is dog friendly as long as they are on a leash. The skateboard area will be open and the stores as well. A fireworks display will start at dark.
The event is free to the public and is presented each year by the Fire Dept. Chief Mike Harmon said, “Our department puts the whole celebration together along with our ambulance service and help from our local residents. We have fire department volunteers come over from other communities, such as Amargosa Valley, to assist. We have a committee of volunteers, who secure donations from local and other community businesses, which goes to the cost of putting on the event.”
Harmon added, “This celebration has been happening ever since I started here 10 years ago. I’ve been told that it’s been going on for over 30 years.” For information call Mike at 702-375-8817.
In Amargosa, the Alamo Fireworks store, located at 2641 Highway 95 at the corner of Highway 373, will offer customers a place to set off their firework purchases in a safe environment.
Owner Patrick James said, “Since there are no other public celebrations, we felt we needed to step up and provide one. We will set off our own finale of aerial fireworks at 9:30 p.m. For information call 775-372-5165.
