Bikers ride for babies this weekend

The 6th Annual Diaper Run starts at J Mar Customs on Saturday with registration from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Motorcycles and automobiles are welcome to participate. Breakfast will be served to all who register.

Drivers pay $15 plus a pack of baby diapers — sizes are newborn to three years old. Passengers pay $10 plus a pack of baby wipes. A free ride pin and patch will be given to the first 200 registered. All items and proceeds benefit the First Choice Pregnancy Center.

The run is 90 miles long. Each entrant picks up a card, from a poker deck at different checkpoints along the route.

Winners are determined by the best poker hands. The end of the run is at Lakeside Casino in the RV park.

A free barbecue beginning around 5 p.m. will be served to contestants and all others present at the event. All the food for the barbecue is donated by local businesses.

Entertainment will be provided by the Crazy Mama band. The band plays a variety of genres with a focus on country. Band members are Rick Oliver, lead vocalist and drums, Billy Blaze, bass and vocals, Sandy (Crazy Mama) Silver, percussionist, David Corbitt, lead guitar and Todd Jackson, rhythm guitar.

J.D. and Deb Marquez are the owners of J Mar Customs. J.D. said, “We believe in supporting our community. All the proceeds stay locally.” Deb added, “We also believe in supporting First Choice. It’s really neat how many bikers come out to help. This event continues to grow bigger every year. Last year we had 223 motorcycles register. In addition to all the diapers and baby wipes, we raised over $4,000.”

J Mar Customs is located at 1271 E. Hwy 160. For more information call (775) 751-2266.
