Background: “In my business, we are on the third generation of painters in my family. My father was the first and now my son is taking over and he is the third. I started painting in 1965 in California. My father taught me the trade and I started off painting rental properties and slowly worked my way up to the high-end stuff. One of my clients was actor John Aniston. I painted in California from 1965 to 1995. I then came out to Las Vegas where I worked as a union painter and worked on most of the casinos in town. I did a lot of faux finishes for the casinos like the horses at Caesars and the ceilings of the Venetian. I came out to Pahrump in 2000 and worked the boom out here until 2007. Things have slowed down but I am now teaching the business to my son.”
First job: “My first job was painting bathrooms and closets at age 12 for my father.”
Years in business: “I have been painting houses for 50 years.”
Personal: “I like to go to shows in Las Vegas. It’s fun to see the old bands and the old talent. I enjoy music and the artistic side of life.”
Business climate: “I think things will change when we change presidents. Anything will be better than what we have. I think once that happens, that the businesses will invest in businesses and so next year things will change.”
