CASA organization prepares for third annual luau

Lake Spring Mountain will transform into a Hawaiian-themed paradise next month as the Pioneer Territory of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) presents their annual luau fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 10, beginning at 6 p.m.

CASA is a national program which recruits, trains and supervises volunteers, who act as court advocates for children who cannot speak for themselves.

Executive Director Willi Baer said the venue will make for an exciting, fun-filled evening, complete with swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking.

“We are also going to have a jet pack demonstration as well as hula dancers,” she said. “We are auctioning off a jet pack and paddle boarding experience. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Tickets for the event are $60 per person or $100 per couple.

Baer said more than 125 tickets have been sold so far, but time is running out.

“We do have a deadline because we have to give an account for how much food will be prepared,” she said. “I’m thinking probably Sept. 2, which is just a little over a week, we would like to have a hard count of attendees.”

Baer also said there is still time for individuals and businesses to become sponsors for the luau.

At present the count is six.

“We are really excited about having it at Spring Mountain,” she said. “We still have room for additional sponsors and the ones who sign up before the 31st of this month will get a free full-page ad in the official program. There is a deadline because the program has to go to press.”

Aside from the various activities, Baer said the food will be amazing.

“We will have a whole roasted pig, along with barbecued chicken and pork,” she said. “We will also have Hawaiian salad, a Pina Colada Tiki Bar and lots of other good stuff. Our chef is Susan DeLisle, who used to be at Mountain Falls. She is the same chef that did our very first Mardi Gras for us and she is really good.”

Each guest will be adorned with a Hawaiian lei and a souvenir photograph upon their arrival.

A silent and live auction, along with raffles, will round out the evening.

“This will be our third annual luau, which of course is a fundraiser for the CASA organization,” Baer said. “Our photographer, Brian, will be taking the arrival pictures of everyone. He’s wonderful because he donates his time and services to us all the time.”

Tickets for the luau are sold only in advance.
