Upward of $10,000 was raised during the Nye County Celebrity Auction at the Pahrump Nugget Events Center on Friday, Oct. 21.
The event served as a fundraiser for Pahrump’s No To Abuse agency, which offers assistance for victims of domestic violence.
Executive Director Salli Kerr said the turnout this year was larger than she expected, as the event returned for the first time in several years.
She also gave kudos to auctioneer and emcee Ski Censke.
“I thought the turnout was great because we hadn’t had one in five years,” she said. “Ski was always convinced that it’s a great event and he was behind us getting involved right away with his support.”
The celebrities chosen for the auction are by and large, high-profile people within the community.
This year, Kerr and her board of directors hammered out a list of potential candidates.
One such auctioned participant was Pahrump Valley Times Publisher Noah Cusick.
“I want to congratulate Noah, who took first place with a $900 bid from Assemblyman James Oscarson, who purchased Noah,” Kerr said. “We are looking to do this again next year and what’s really fun, is that now we’ve got 20 people that were celebrities this year and some of them will be happy to participate again next year.”
One person who will also participate in the 2017 auction, Kerr noted, will be Censke.
“Ski is one of a kind and he comes to these events with a lot of heart,” she said. “Not only is he entertaining, but he cares about our cause and so he brings that part with him.”
