Cross-country girls end season

The Trojans girls cross-country team went to the Southern Nevada Regional Championship on Friday. Although the girls will not be going to state, the girls ran hard.

Seniors Fenny Descuatan, Shiloa Gulden and Cambria Forrey ran for Pahrump Valley for the last time. Descuatan led the team with the fastest time and finished 34th (25 minutes and 19 seconds), Alicia Quiroz was 44th (26:22), Forrey was 54th (26:56).

According to Nevada Preps, the last time the girls went to state as a team was in 2005.

The last individual girl to go to state from Pahrump was Stefanie Thelaner in 2013. Since Thelaner’s departure the girls have not put up a girl with her speed. Thelaner’s fastest time (20:36) was at the 2013 Sunset League finals.

Alicia Quiroz will return as a senior next year and if she sticks with it and trains hard she can find herself going to state next year.

The last girls state champion was McKenzie Dean, who won state in 2006 and 2007.

To regain their former glory would mean the current girls would have to do some recruiting.
