Local resident and Great Basin College instructor of theater arts Maer Wilson has been busy with her own projects lately.
Besides using her experience as an actress in her teaching at GBC, she has taken up writing and will be signing her books from noon “until people stop wanting to chat” on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Off 160 Coffee House, 1330 S. Highway 160.
She also invites those who already have her books to bring them in for an autograph.
Wilson is celebrating the release of “Portals,” book two of the “The Thulukan Chronicles.” “Relics” was published last year.
Wilson said she has always loved stories, especially fantasy, mystery and sci-fi. She has combined her favorites into what she calls “urban fantasy,” a genre that differs from fantasy by bringing her characters into today’s world.
“It’s not like Tolkien, where the action is set in another world. The books are set in present time and bring the fantasy into the everyday world,” Wilson said.
She said the books revolve around two main characters.
The heroine is a medium who talks to the dead and the hero is what Wilson calls a “finder,” someone who can locate anyone.
The circumstances are the effect of returning magic on the Earth, which Wilson said “grows increasingly darker with every book.”
The third book is finished but not yet published and the fourth book compiling the “Chronicles” is in the outline stage.
When she’s not writing, Wilson plays online video games, teaches college and reads.
She also co-hosts the literary podcast, MythBehaving and writes for two gaming fansites. She lives with her two dogs, a chihuahua and a poodle.
