If you plan to visit relatives or spend Black Friday in the Las Vegas area this holiday weekend, be prepared for increased traffic.
The Nevada Department of Transportation is expecting heavy Thanksgiving traffic in the Las Vegas valley from Nov. 26 through Nov. 29.
An estimated 308,000 additional people will visit Southern Nevada during the holiday weekend, with 185,000 (60 percent) of those individuals driving, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
“We anticipate heavy traffic during Thanksgiving weekend, especially around the resort corridor,” said NDOT spokesman Tony Illia. “We encourage people to drive safely and allow additional time to reach their destination.”
NDOT encourages motorists to stay attentive and eliminate distractions while driving. In addition, they suggest obeying the posted speed limits, not using their cell phones while driving, using their seatbelts.
“Don’t drive impaired,” Illia said. “Remain focused on the road, and be considerate and aware of other motorists and pedestrians.”
