A local businesswoman saw the need for an embroidery-based business years ago and recently moved the run-from-home business to storefront late last year.
Andrea McGuire, owner of Hubbster Apparel and Embroidery, located at 2160 E. Calvada, Suite B, built up a customer base larger than what her home could handle so she leased out a space last year.
The idea for the business came about around five years ago when a friend of McGuire’s noted the lack of customizable goods stores in the area.
“I had a girlfriend of mine say for me to get it going, so I went and bought a commercial 15-needle machine and have been doing it ever since,” she said.
Hubbster Apparel offers an array of custom embroidery, heat transfer and other options. Various items can be customized, including shirts, towels, bedding and more. Whether it is a single item or a bulk order, McGuire said that she’ll take any order, large or small.
Working with local groups is something McGuire is passionate about, as the big reason she is in business today is working with CCA, and she hopes to continue to grow her customer base.
“I work with the bikers, the classic car people, equestrian groups, so I just work with a bunch of different groups and I am looking to expand to be more than just a uniform store for CCA,” she said. “I’m looking forward to working with new groups.”
McGuire enjoys working with people who have fun ideas, as making something creative helps make her work that much better.
Hubbster enjoyed another milestone last week, as the business was welcomed into the Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce last week.
McGuire was happy with the ribbon-cutting ceremony and is eager to continue to work with the organization going forward.
“It’s always great working with the chamber,” she said. “Last year I got to help with the Balloon Fest with T-shirts and it looks like I will again this year. I’d like to get more involved with the chamber because I think being a part of the community is a huge deal.”
McGuire explained that she renamed her business as she moved it into her new digs to match up with the bar she co-owns as well.
“I originally named it Horizon Custom Embroidery, but I recently changed it to Hubbster to match with the Hubb.”
McGuire co-owns the Hubb Bar and Saloon with Erin Hubbell, and credits her business partner as the reason why she can juggle both businesses.
“Erin is a big part of the Hubb and helps me where I am able to come over to the Hubbster Tuesday through Friday and then I’m usually at the Hubb on the weekends and some evenings,” she said. “Erin does the majority of the Hubb, where I am over at Hubbster.
“A lot of credit goes to him for working at the Hubb. He’s a great partner to work with.”
What it all boils down to for McGuire is ensuring that she meets those who buy her goods’ needs, as they are the most important aspect to any successful establishment.
“I love working with people,” she said. “The biggest thing to me is customer service. It’s the thing I love to do. I’ve been doing customer service for over 20 years.
“If you don’t have customers, you don’t have a business. So your customers are really your boss, so it’s not like you’re in business for yourself, you’re in business for the people.”
