Age: 50

Years in business: “I have been cutting hair for 33 years.”

First job: “My first job was as a cook in a restaurant in Washington.”

Background: “I started cutting hair in 1984. I was inspired to do it by a friend of my grandfather’s who owned a barber shop. I then went to barber shop school in 1984 in Seattle, Washington. I worked in Las Vegas and was part of a large company for 30 years and then I took over the shop in Pahrump, which was called Mikey’s Barbershop. It had been around for 16 years. We are open Tuesday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.”

Personal: “I like to hike with my wife around Mount Charleston. I also like to spend time with my dogs.”

Business climate: “I have a lot of regulars and the shop has done really well since I took over, which was a pleasant surprise. At my store all cuts cost $15. The shop is a traditional barbershop. I don’t take appointments, walk-ins only. I came here because I am looking to buy a home here in town. I really like small towns.”
