Background: “I was inspired to get into the business by my former sister-in-law. Before I did this I was an independent contractor working as a merchandiser stocking shelves at Walmart, Smith’s and Albertson’s. At the salon I love doing nails because I love getting to know my clients and I enjoy the conversations I have with different people. I think that is the coolest part of the job. I think I do a lot of creative designs, and over time I learned that this job is not as easy as it looks.”
Years in business: “I have been doing nails for two years now.”
First job: “My first job was with Jack in the Box at 16. While there I worked in all the positions.”
Personal: “Playing softball is my favorite pastime. I coach two teams, one coed and one women’s team. I have been playing softball for 13 years now. I played baseball growing up and started that in Little League. Back then I loved beating the boys.
Business Climate: “In my line of work there is job security but there is a lot of competition in this town. Did you know there are about 32 beauty salons out here? This job was definitely harder than I thought it was. I never felt I was an artist before I came here. I think I am now more creative. My friend and colleague was so nice to teach me little tricks of the trade that have helped me to better assists my clients. It made things easier for me and they were tricks that they don’t teach you at beauty school. Another tool I use to help my business is social media. Facebook has been great for me. It has helped me grow my business.”
