Inspirations Senior Living facility announced several upcoming events benefitting seniors in the community.
Community Relations Director Tonya Brum said representatives from the American Association of Retired Persons are beginning their safe driving course for local seniors.
Brum noted that vehicles have changed over the years as well as traffic conditions and many senior drivers have never taken a safe driving course.
“It begins next Wednesday and it will be held the third Wednesday of every month,” she said. “Driving around town can be very dangerous. Sometimes you take your life in your own hands when trying to get around to run errands. It’s important to be aware of your limitations when out on the roads.”
Brum said some drivers over the age of 50 have never looked back since they got their first driver’s license decades ago.
She also said some of the most experienced senior drivers can benefit from brushing up on their driving skills.
“It will be from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.,” she said. “By taking a driver safety course, the seniors will learn the current rules of the road and defensive driving techniques. Knowing how to drive your car more safely is very important and you’ll learn how to manage and accommodate common age-related changes associated with driving.”
The cost for the driving course is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.
Inspirations is also offering a free lunch to all attendees from 11 a.m. to noon.
Brum also said Inspirations is offering a free seminar on wills and trusts for local seniors on Thursday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Local Paralegal Bob Pilkington will give the presentation.
“The goal of the seminar is to explain the importance of protecting and securing your assets for the future, for your benefit as well as your families,” she said. “This is the perfect opportunity to get your questions answered on will and trusts. Seating is limited for this event so it’s best to call for reservations.”
Officials at Inspirations are also sponsoring a car wash for Pahrump Community Church’s youth group on Saturday, March 14.
The event will be held in the parking lot of the facility from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All donations from the car wash will support the youth group’s summer camp program.
