It’s mostly about the bikes this weekend as Pahrump turns into a thunder alley of sorts. There are some businesses taking advantage of the town-approved event produced by Roadshows Inc., of Reno.
Also on the schedule of activities, is jazz, blues and swing at Sanders Family Winery, a free movie in the park, and a veterans’ barbecue.
The Spring Mountains Run is the three-day event hosted by the town. The main events will take place in Petrack Park. Those already registered will get an official T-shirt, ride pin and take part in the poker runs/walks. There will be a number of VIP parties as well.
Admission to the festivities is free and spectators can listen to live music and shop in the vendor village. There will be biker games, competitions and several shows are scheduled. Out-of-town visitors can take self-guided tours, hit the wineries and generally learn what the Pahrump area has to offer.
At the same time, three local motorcycle groups calling themselves Brothers of the Bikes, is hosting a fundraiser to benefit Oasis Outreach and Symphony Animal Foundation at the Maverick Saloon &Dance Hall.
That event, too, will be Friday through Sunday with a DJ and live entertainment from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. each day. Tickets are a donation of $20.
Live music will be from Mind at Large, Jimmy “D” and the Howlin’ Dawgs, Hard Rain and Single Action .44.
There will be games such as beer pong, frozen boxer and frozen T-shirt contests, bikini bull riding and a wet T-shirt contest. Vendors will be on site and the event is “patch friendly.” Food from Big Dick’s Pizzeria will be available.
Another fundraiser to benefit the Southern Inyo Fire Protection District will be Saturday at the HUBB on Bell Vista Road. There will be music inside and the event will run from around noon to 7:30 p.m.
Sugar Stick will be on the outdoor stage at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings, also at the HUBB. Bring chairs or blankets. No coolers, drinks or food.
Tom Saitta, Tommy Deering and Kai Brant will be performing the “Great American Songbook” series both Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21, at Sanders Family Winery on Kellogg Road. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at dusk. Tickets are $15 and participants may bring snacks or a picnic. Wine and other beverages will be available.
If you plan to attend with a group, reservations are strongly suggested.
The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15 annual barbecue is set from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 21 in Ian Deutch Memorial Park.
The event is free to those with military ID and their families. The public is invited and as the event is also a fundraiser for the DAV, adult plates will be $5, and children under 12 will be $2. A raffle will be held and tickets are priced at $1 or six for $5.
The Movie in the Park Saturday evening is “Despicable Me.” Bring chairs or a blanket. Concessions are available and proceeds support Trojan sports. Leave the pooch at home or bring a leash. The event is alcohol, tobacco and drug free.
Two future events are gearing up and require advanced notice to participate.
The Liberty Festival sponsored each year by the Pahrump Chamber of Commerce, is signing up vendors for booth space during the event. Applications are available at the chamber office on the second floor of Nevada State Bank.
The Methodologies Performing Arts Camp is putting a call out to youth ages 12 to 18. The camp teaches acting for stage and camera, improvisation, theatrical movement and video and film-making skills. Call Francine Winters at NyE Communities Coalition, 7279970 extension 237 to sign up before July 3.
