It’s time for the Pahrump Valley Museum and Historical Society to begin its lecture series, which over the past two years has grown from six presentations to 11. Winery owner Jack Sanders will be the guest speaker and will talk about the history of wine making in Nevada and specifically in Pahrump.
Sanders has been a Pahrump resident for over 27 years. While doing research, he discovered wine grapes have been successfully grown in the Pahrump Valley by Frank “Pop” Buol, who also produced wines. Sanders chose to resurrect the wine industry in Nevada by opening the “Pahrump Valley Winery,” which he later sold in order to open his current winery, “Sanders Family Winery.”
The operation boasts two mature vineyards and the “Betsie Sanders Performing Arts Theater,” which is set on 4.3 acres of land and surrounded not only by the vineyards, but also beautiful Italian Cypress trees. The building itself is designed in the Tuscan Renaissance style, with soaring archways, a fabulous bell tower and a beautiful fountain.
The winery offers free wine tastings and visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic basket to enjoy in the winery surroundings.
Sanders will be giving away bottles of wine and various items in a free raffle at the lecture.
The lecture will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 11, at the museum, 401 E. Basin Ave., west of Highway 160, turn on Ford Place.
