Residents have a big weekend ahead again and a couple of new options during the week. The choices will be even bigger next weekend with the Spring Mountains Run here for three days.
The HUBB, located at 3720 W. Bell Vista Road, has added Dean West performing a Waylon Jennings tribute the first Wednesday of every month. The show will begin at 8 p.m.
This Friday and Saturday, Matt and Cole Reeves will be there beginning at 8 p.m. There is no cover charge.
Also, things get lively on Sundays, when West hooks up with Mike Hickey and Wild Bill to host an open jam. Last week, “The Three Amigos,” as they call themselves, were joined by Carl, who plays lead electric guitar and another gentleman with a case full of harmonicas. That show is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Tom Saitta and Tommy Deering, with “All That Jazz,” are playing from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday evenings at Draft Picks. The weekly performances began June 10. The music selections will feature jazz and music from what Saitta calls, “the greatest era of American music.
Sanders Family Winery will host the stage performance of Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest,” by the Shadow Mountain Community Players both Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14, in the courtyard. It’s a “trivial comedy for serious people.”
The gates open at 6 p.m. for free wine tastings, the show begins just before dusk. Tickets are $15 per person and reservations are suggested. Call 727-1776 to make yours. Participants are welcome to bring snacks or picnics, wines and other beverages are available for purchase.
Scotty’s Castle Organ Concert is June 13 and 14 in the organ room of the castle in Death Valley. Tickets may be available and are $5 each. The performances are set for 5 p.m., tonight and for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday.
Only 40 seats are available for each concert given on the 1928 Welte-Mignon theater organ. Call 800-478-8564, extension 10 to check availability and purchase tickets.
The Movie in the Park will be “Thor,” and the show, staged in Ian Deutch Memorial Park, will begin at dusk.
Bring chairs or blanket. Snacks are permitted but concessions are available. The sales help support Trojans sports.
The event is a drug-, alcohol- and tobacco-free event.
Free family swimming at the community pool is being sponsored by NyE Communities Coalition and St. Martin’s in the Desert Episcopal Church on Sunday. The hours will be noon to 7 p.m.
A Veterans’ barbecue is set for June 21 in Ian Deutch Memorial Park. The event, sponsored by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15, will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The meal is available free to veterans with military ID and their families. The public is invited to attend as well. Adults costs will be $5 per plate and children under 12 eat for $2.
There is a raffle as well with tickets being $1 each or six tickets for $5. All proceeds support the homeless and needy veterans programs.
