The Pahrump Community Library will host an extravaganza for local authors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at the library.
Author Appreciation Day, sponsored by The Tumbleweed Tales Society and the library, is a meet and greet with time set aside for talks, music, visual art and refreshments.
Organizer Judy Strickland said, “We have 13 authors joining us. All but one are from Pahrump. Claudia Bowker is from Amargosa Valley.
Strickland’s husband and Tumbleweed Tales Society founder George Strickland has partnered with Luis Elizondo on saxophone and Paul Freidin on guitar to offer live music as part of the festivities.
Charlise Butler, Freidin, Marty Larcom and George Strickland will all have visual art on display and available for purchase.
Guest speakers will be Rodney Camacho, Channel 46 News Director Deanna O’Donnell and Pahrump Life Editor Patti Diamond.
Author talks are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Some of the authors have published one book, while others have multiple titles to their credit.
The Pahrump Valley Times has showcased several of them, such as Claudia Bowker and her book “It Took a Bullet.” Alexandra Forry, Steven W. Johnson, Dick Senior, George Strickland and Maer Wilson have all appeared in other editions of the newspaper.
While Forry has written one novel, Johnson has written several and also published a how-to book on getting published. Senior partnered with other authors to publish “Keeper of the Well” but has published two other books, one fiction and the other about his personal experiences in the Spring Mountains.
Strickland is best known for “The Curse of Rhyolite,” which was published for the Pahrump Arts Council. He is a writer of poetry and a photographer, but has also written a radio play. Strickland has used his narrative talents for several local events and “Cornbread Amos.”
Maer is a teacher at Great Basin College who writes sci-fi in her spare time. She is working on a trilogy and will be signing copies of “Portals” and “Relics.”
Other authors include Susan Wright, Ronald Wayne, Marty Larcom, John Salacan, Judy Strickland, Asya Ivanova and Patricia Grubbs.
Tumbleweed Tales Society was founded in 2005 and meets the first Saturday of the month at Pahrump Library for poetry/writers round table from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
