Nevada Silver Trails holding selfie scavenger hunt

Everyone loves a good selfie, so why not take it to the next step and earn rewards for the narcissistic act that has taken over social media.

Nevada Silver Trails, largest of the five areas promoted in Nevada by Nevada tourism, is in the midst of a campaign titled, “Selfie Scavenger Hunt Giveaway.”

The contest, which began on July 1 and runs through Dec. 30, is based on people earning points toward prizes by racking up the most entries for taking selfies at various tourist attractions in rural Nevada.

“There is a list of destinations and each one is worth a few points,” said Marvin Minnick, Nevada Silver Trails chairman. “We’ll have you go and take a picture in front of the Mizpah (in Tonopah) for example.”

Entry amounts range from three entries to 20 entries, and are determined by how convenient a place is to visit and snap a self-photo.

“It just started and people are already submitting pictures,” Minnick said. “It’s based on how far out it is, how hard it is to get to and you get more points for the harder it is to get to.”

Places like the Pahrump Winery, Pahrump Nugget Hotel and Casino and the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch are worth the least at three entries, while a person can earn 20 entries by visiting Berlin-Ichthysaur State Park in Berlin/Gabbs.

“Say you go to one of them that is worth five entries, we take five coupons and put them in a drum for various prizes,” Minnick said.

Prizes range from hotel stays, including dinner and spending cash, varying from one, two, and three-night stays at either the Mizpah in Tonopah, Overland Hotel in Pioche, Saddle West and the Pahrump Nugget in Pahrump.

There is also a JetPack adventure package at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch and prizes from Pahrump Valley Winery, Sanders Family WInery, and other prizes.

All participants are required to upload their selfies to nevadasilvertrails.com or email them to selfis@nevadasilvertrails.com. The winners of the prizes will be announced in January.
