Pahrump Art Gallery to hold change of exhibit ceremony

The Pahrump Art Gallery is inviting the community to join them next month for an artist’s reception at their 601 East Street location as part of the gallery’s change of exhibit ceremony.

The event will also serve to introduce the community to its latest featured artist.

The gallery’s Lloyd Martin said anyone who is interested in various art forms is encouraged to take part in the celebration.

“We are changing out our gallery exhibit and that will take place on Oct. 10,” he said. “We will be featuring an artist by the name of Ty Cook and he is a local artist. Ty sells a lot of his works on Facebook and he recently won ribbons at the arts and crafts portion of the Fall Festival.”

Martin said Cook is a traditional artist who prefers to work with pencils and charcoal, but he’s also venturing into the world of color.

“He basically likes black and white art, but he’s doing a lot of color work now,” he said. “He likes to work large and he likes to use charcoal and pencil drawings. He’s also going to try to do some smaller ones in color because there is only so much room on the wall for him.”

Martin said the present featured artist, Jessica Wakefield’s work will continue to grace the walls of the gallery until Cook’s art is displayed.

“We change exhibits every three months and we will have a reception a week later on Oct. 17,” he said. “The reception is open to the public from 1 to 3 p.m. and we will have cookies, coffee and refreshments. The reception is just a chance for people to meet the featured artist. I think we might also have a raffle as well.”

Martin described Wakefield’s work as traditional.

“She also does do a little bit of abstract art and she does have pieces that are watercolor and pastels,” he said. “I think she also has some nice acrylic artwork but it’s mostly watercolor. She actually has a beautiful watercolor of koi fish and it was the centerpiece of her current display.”

Next month’s reception is open to the public.

The Pahrump Art Gallery is located next to the community library on East Street.

It’s open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, but closed on Sundays.
