Shows for the adults, a movie for the kids and a special event for teens, everyone is covered this weekend for choices in entertainment.
Sanders Family Winery has at least two more shows scheduled, but due to his wedding bookings, co-owner Jack Sanders is only able to book shows for one night versus the two-night performances last year.
Tomorrow evening, July 26, Jim Wise and Route 66 will be the evening for country music as the band will begin performing at dusk in the winery courtyard at 3780 E. Kellogg Road.
Wise is probably more famous among baseball fans as a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals than he is for music. If it hadn’t been for an injury, Wise might never have stepped into his present career as a Nashville recording artist and leader for his band, Route 66.
Tickets are $15 and patrons are invited to bring snacks or a picnic. Wine and other beverages will be available. Those planning to go with a group should call for reservations, 727-1776. The show sold out last year.
Next Saturday, Aug. 2, the winery will present Deja Vu, another popular show, features a dance and show band. Break out the dancin’ shoes and spend the evening floating through decades of favorite tunes. Tickets for the show are on sale at $15 each and reservations for groups are highly recommended.
The Pahrump Teen Advisory Board will host a Teens’ Carnival Friday, July 25, in the Bob Ruud Community Center.
The event does have an admission fee of $5 or five cans of non-perishable food, which will be donated to a local food bank.
All ages are welcome, but council chairman Cameron Lynch said the event is best suited to those ages 13 to 18. “Anyone 12 or under should be accompanied by an adult.”
The event will feature a limited amount of free pizza, games and prizes. Other concessions will be available for cash-only sales. The doors open at 5 p.m.
The organization is taking donations to host other kid-friendly events through the town office.
The final Movie in the Park will be “The Jungle Book.” The show begins at dusk and concessions will be available. Bring blankets or chairs. As always, the event is alcohol, drug and tobacco free.
This coming Thursday, July 31, the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension office will hold another food preservation class from 9 a.m. to noon. “It’s Drying Time” will cover which foods can be dried for future use and what types of equipment to use. The class is $20 and reserving a space is suggested by calling 727-5532.
Two more classes are scheduled, Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon and another Aug. 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost of the classes is $25 each.
Aug. 14, will cover making jams, and the Aug. 21 class will instruct the preservation of meat using a pressure canner.
Goldfield Days is coming up Aug. 1-5 in Goldfield. There will be a parade, and ICS sanctioned chili cook-off, street dancing, live music, gunfighter skits, vendors, an antique show and more.
