Second annual Bullfrog Historical Mining District Poker Run

The Beatty VFW post will be hosting their second annual Bullfrog Historical Mining District Poker Run on Saturday, Oct. 17.

The run follows a 41-mile course through a variety of Beatty area locations of geological and historical interest. This includes several former mine sites.

The course is designed for 4X4 vehicles, ATVs and UTVs. No dirt bikes or 2-wheel vehicles are permitted, nor is consumption of alcohol while on the run. Registrants must be at least 18 years old.

The entry fee for the run is $25 and passengers may register as well as drivers.

“It’s not just a poker run,” says organizer Karl Olson. “It’s also a learning experience. There are stops along the way where geology and historical features are explained. There is also a book.”

Olson emphasizes that it is a slow speed event, not a race.

The day starts with a pancake breakfast at the post from 7-9 a.m. Poker run registration is from 8-10 a.m. The course starts at Fluorspar Canyon Road, 1.5 miles south of Beatty on Highway 95.

After the run there will be a roasted pig dinner. Folks not registered for the poker run can eat for $10.

An awards ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Poker run prizes are $300 for the best hand, $200 for second best, and $100 for third. There is also a grand raffle prize of a Ruger .22 rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition.

The poker run raises funds for post projects. Those interested in registering can email beattyvfw@gmail.com, visit www.beattyvfw.com, or call 775-553-9312.
