While most organizational fundraisers got the jump on the Fall Festival set for next week, one nonprofit is going head-to-head at Tecopa Hot Springs Resort.
The Death Valley Luau will let the public celebrate Hawaiian style. The event is presented by the Goldwell Open Air Museum and the Tecopa Artists Group.
Also known as Albert’s Tarantella, an event formerly held at the Open Air Museum, has become popular with those wanting to trade shoes and shorts for bare feet and grass skirts.
Beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, festivities will feature the authentic Hawaiian music and dance of Gary and Sheldeen Haleamau.
Gary was born and raised on a ranch in North Kona, and is noted for his falsetto singing and slack-key guitar. He has performed around the world and won many awards for his recordings.
Both a dancer and a teacher, Sheldeen teaches Hawaiian language and culture along with dance so that students understand the full meaning of hula.
A performance by Killian’s Angels (an all-female Celtic-influenced band) is also on the schedule, and the event will feature luau-inspired food and beverages, a silent auction and raffles. The event takes place at the “beach-front” property of Tecopa Hot Springs Resort.
This weekend is full as Meals on Wheels, a Senior Center program, will benefit from a fundraiser “Western Hoedown.” The event will be from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. tonight, Sept. 19, in the Pahrump Nugget Events Center.
Tickets are $10 and guests may enjoy appetizers, refreshments, dancing and raffles.
The HO and Model Train group is looking for new members and participation in the exhibit open today only at the Pahrump Community Library.
The long-awaited Adventure in Time show, called “The Magical Mystic Music Shoppe” featuring Lynn Peterson, will be performing Saturday, Sept. 20 at Sanders Family Winery. The gates open at 6 p.m. for wine tasting and the show begins at dusk. The fully costumed show will carry the audience through eras from the 1920s through present day.

“Laughing Under the Stars,” a fundraiser show for the Kiwanis is on tap Sept. 26 at the winery as well. Tickets for the show are $20 and it sells out quickly.
The Maverick Saloon &Dance Hall is holding a celebrity look-alike contest Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. Walk the red carpet and win prizes.
The American Cancer Society’s Bark for Life fundraiser is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20 at Ian Deutch Memorial Park.
The event, sponsored by the Elks Lodge, is open to the public. The fee to enter Fido in the pageantry contest is $10 per pet.
All animals must be on a leash. Vendor booths include groomers, pet stores and others. Food and drinks will be available.

A British-made sports car show will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Mountain Falls Clubhouse.
Those with British sports cars are welcome to bring them. The group is coming here from Las Vegas and although there are members here, the organization would like to generate enough interest to start a Pahrump chapter.
