Top readers honored at Floyd Elementary

The top readers in each class from the Floyd Elementary School Principal’s Challenge were honored on Monday.

The top two readers were fourth-grader Gent Sutton, far right in yellow, with 755,693 words read, and fifth-grader Jeffrey Kelnholfer, upper left, with 720,775 words read in the October and November.

The challenge was for the school to read 11 million words, which was double what the students read last year. The students crushed that goal by reading 16,477,925 words and this meant Principal and Denver Broncos fan Jeff Skelton had to dress up in a Oakland Raiders cheerleader outfit. Nye County Superintendent Dale Norton also attended the event.
