The Pahrump Film Festival (PFF) will hold its sixth annual showcase of short and feature films on Saturday, September 20th at the outdoor theater of K-7 Pizza and International Cuisine. Pizza and Indian food are available for purchase. The festival begins at 8 p.m. The event is free to the public.
The PFF is a Nevada nonprofit corp. In the past the president was Harvey Caplan. As of this year, the presidency has been passed on to this reporter. With the change, a new category of films, by local youth, will be added to films by adults.
This year’s festival will showcase six short films in the youth category. They include “The Right To Bear Arms” produced by Darby O’Donnell, “The Devil and Tom Walker” produced by Noah Begin, “Family Twilight Zone” produced by Nye Communities Coalition and High Desert International Film Festival (HDIFF), “These Dreams” produced by HDIFF, “The Creep” produced by HDIFF’s Youth Film Camp and “A Way Of Life” produced by Yihyun Jeomy and Laura Sposato.
In the films by adults category a feature film, “Dorks On the Moon” will make a return showing. This film was shown in 2008 and was produced by Harvey Caplan. In the same category two short films will be showcased. They are “Big Foot’s Spring Break” and “Jailbird” both produced by Ray and Migdalia Etheridge.
PFF’s added mission is to promote, tutor and mentor youth in all phases of film making. This includes producing, directing, filming, editing, sound, acting and post production.
Our schools spend a lot of money on sports but have little left over to develop another aspect of our youths’ minds. Art, in its many forms, stimulates imagination and creativity and for many years was an integral part of our youth education and mental development.
The vision is to awaken that part of the mind. At the same time PFF wants to provide a way for youth to be involved in fun activities that will also develop poise, leadership and skill sets that can lead them into future vocations.
PFF seeks volunteers with experience in all phases of film production including acting and directing. The festival also is looking for donations or the use of video cameras. At present the festival is accepting video phone films that have been transferred to DVD.
