Live music and a fundraiser are on tap for the weekend. Tickets for upcoming events are on sale and Spring Mountain State Park wants you to know about its events as well.
First up, Sanders Family Winery is back in the entertainment scene with live music from Jim Wise and Route 66.
Jim Wise is probably more famous among baseball fans as a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals than he is for music. If it hadn’t been for an injury, Wise might never have stepped into his present career as a Nashville recording artist and leader for his band, Route 66.
Wise has been playing guitar since he was 14 and began playing in various bands during high school.
Wise picked up his guitar and honed his singing talents as a solo artist at clubs on Chicago’s Rush Street. He soon formed his own band and began touring the country as the opening act for some of the biggest names in the music industry including Alan Jackson, Collin Raye, Joe Diffie and Waylon Jennings. Wise has trained with Nashville’s legendary voice instructors Gerald Arthur and Renee Grant-Williams.
With the release of his fourth album “Nashville Tracks,” Wise captures his audience with an unmatched enthusiasm.
The doors will open at 6 p.m. tomorrow evening, the show starts around 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and patrons are invited to bring snacks or a picnic.
On another note, The Kiwanis Club will host its bi-annual fundraiser, “Laughing Under the Stars,” also at Sanders Winery.
The original plan was to hold the comedy show on Sept. 21 only, but due to high demand, Kiwanis has added Friday, Sept. 20 to the schedule as well. The Saturday night show is sold out.
Tickets are $20, gates will open at 6 p.m. both nights and patrons can bring snacks or a picnic.
There will be raffles of gift baskets and a 50/50 raffle. The funds will support the Kiwanis scholarship awards program. Call 727-0911 for information and tickets.
There will be a fundraiser for Roxann Houser beginning at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Lowlife Tattoo Company on Loop Road. Houser is battling cancer and the proceeds will help with medical expenses.
Lowlife Tattoo owner Jonathan Tafoya said Houser has been a mentor to the younger generation and this is an effort to support her.
There will be a barbecue, live music from Cole Reeves, DJ “Breadman,” raffles of items donated by local businesses, T-shirts for a donation of $20 and $20 cancer ribbon tattoos.
History buffs might enjoy a trip over the mountain to the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, Saturday, for a Civil War re-enactment. The event will take place in the historic area and will include audience participation. The park is located in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
Fees are $9 per vehicle
Full moon hikes are scheduled in the park for Sept. 19 and 20. Hikers will go into Ash Grove or Sandstone Canyon.
Hikes begin at 7 p.m. and reservations are necessary. Call 702-875-4141 to make yours.
Pahrump Valley Rotary has put tickets on sale for the annual $10,000 cash giveaway.
Normally the event is held at Mountain Falls but this year the gala drawing and dinner event will be staged at Lakeside Casino & RV in the amphitheater.
Tickets are $125 each and the price includes a western themed dinner buffet for two, two drink tickets, and one entry into the drawing.
There will be other raffles as well and live music and dancing.
Tickets can be purchased at Mankins Allstate, 1271 S. Highway 160; Allstate Insurance in the Albertson’s shopping plaza and at Car Studio located in the Pahrump Nugget parking lot.
The party, dinner and drawing are scheduled for 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Oct. 19.
The Disabled American Veterans will be passing out forget-me-nots today and tomorrow and taking donations for needy veterans at Home Depot, Albertson’s, Smith’s, Walgreens, Walmart and CVS Pharmacy.
